Waking up to beautiful sunshine on Manhattan. All streets and parks still covered in snow. Businesses are still closed and owners is trying to get back to normal operation again. Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are closed for tourists, so now it is just a new day to relax on Manhattan and enjoy the nice weather. Waiting for the New York Subway N train. On board the train I do not know what to expect, it is like watching a movie, always ready for something strange to happen here. Sunshine on Manhattan, outside the Radisson Hotel. Pedestrians are still using the roads to walk on and traffic is moving slow throughout the city. Late brunch served, best blueberry pan cakes ever. Freedom Tower reflecting the sun on this beautiful day. Not easy for this squirrel to find food today, as usual begging from the tourist works in Battery Park. Get creative in Battery Park! No tourist attractions open around here, make your own fun. FDNY ladder 10 responding from Ten House, across from the World Trade Center site and the 9/11 Memorial. Coming from Norway I did not have any great expectations about winter storm Jonas New York I was proven wrong. News media reports that the snow has hit Manhattan and train services will be suspended. That was the first sign that this was more than just an ordinary snowfall. Taking one of the last trains from Steinway station to get back to Manhattan before the service is suspended. Arriving in Manhattan this is my first sight, snow everywhere, stuck cars and blocked streets. Next to the taxi is two Norwegian girls trying to help out in a difficult situation. We all tried giving this guy a helping hand, he had been here for more than three hours. In that time he had managed to clear the snow from underneath his front tires. And he have a front wheel drive Toyota, not a smart move. The streets are getting more and more challenging to drive on and businesses are closing up for the day to make sure staff can get home and out of Manhattan. Finding refuge from the storm at this restaurant, one of few still open at this time. Getting […]

I will spend the whole day walking around Manhattan, taking the New York Subway to see some of the hidden gems and some of the main tourist attractions. Breakfast at Sadelle`s in the heart of SoHo, a perfect place for a great breakfast or lunch. With a lovely interior and highly skilled waiters. Salmon, bagels, fresh juice and pancakes, can not be too much better than this. Sadelle`s serves one of the best breakfast in Manhattan before exploring NYC. Walking around SoHo, classical buildings that is declared a national landmark. Walking theses streets makes me think back how life would be here in the -20`s and -30`s. For those who is interested in finance or just watches too many movies a stop at Wall Street is a must. The line for taking a photo with the bull is long, so here you see some other tourist getting their photo taken. NYC Freedom Tower with the worlds most expensive train station in front. Construction work going on close to Wall Street. Underground at the NYC Metro. The Metro is a fast and easy way to get around […]

This is a nice chance to get away from New York and busy Manhattan. Renting a car from Hertz and explore more destinations just for one day. The first stop will be Philadelphia before heading to Atlantic City and I plan to be back later on the same day. Hertz Rent a car have everything ready, sign papers and get the car. Next drive to Philadelphia and Atlantic City . However this time the Mercedes that had been booked did not have a functioning GPS system on board so I ended up with this monster of a Infinity, big enough for two guys on a road trip.Hertz making us pay for the upgrade of car when they could not provide what was booked can not be seen as good customer service. Leaving New York on I 95 south. Refueling the beast. The first sight of Philadelphia. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s largest city, is notable for its rich history, on display at the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall – where the Declaration of Independence and Constitution were signed – and other American Revolutionary sites. No less iconic are the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of […]
