Why fly from Copenhagen?

Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) is the busiest airport in Scandinavia and one of the most efficient in Europe. The terminal is connected directly to Copenhagen's metro and train network — you can be in the city centre in 13 minutes on the metro (DKK 38) or reach Malmö, Sweden in 35 minutes by train across the Øresund Bridge.

SAS has its main hub here, Norwegian operates a base, and easyJet, Ryanair, and Wizz Air all serve CPH with budget routes. The SAS/Norwegian competition on popular routes (London, Oslo, Stockholm) keeps fares low even on full-service carriers.

Copenhagen's position between Scandinavia and continental Europe means short flights in every direction. Berlin is 55 minutes. Amsterdam is 1h25. London is 1h50. And the eastern European routes — Warsaw, Budapest, Prague — are often cheaper from CPH than from any other Nordic airport.

When to fly from Copenhagen

Summer (Jun–Aug): Danes head to the Mediterranean en masse. Book Greece and Croatia 6–8 weeks early. But oddly, London and Amsterdam weekends stay cheap — everyone's going south, not west.

Autumn (Sep–Nov): Sweet spot. Post-holiday dip, southern Europe still warm. Norwegian drops prices aggressively — Barcelona weekends under 500 DKK return are possible.

Winter (Dec–Feb): Canary Islands and Malaga are packed with Scandinavians but prices are fair due to high frequency. For city breaks, London and Berlin are dirt cheap — under 400 DKK return.

Spring (Mar–May): Gradually warming up. Easter inflates prices. April school holidays in Denmark push family routes up. For childfree travellers, early March and late May are the moves.

Airport insider tip

CPH has free water refill stations throughout the terminal — don't buy overpriced bottled water. The airport also has a 7-Eleven airside that charges almost-normal Danish prices (which is still expensive, but better than airport markup).

Frequently asked questions

Is CPH expensive to fly from?

Not anymore. easyJet, Norwegian, and Ryanair have broken the SAS monopoly. Weekend flights to Barcelona, London, and Berlin regularly go under 500 DKK return. Use Weekendstop's month view to find the cheapest weekend.

Can I fly to Sweden from Copenhagen airport?

You don't even need to fly — Malmö is 35 minutes by train across the Øresund Bridge. But if you mean Gothenburg or northern Sweden, yes — SAS and Norwegian run frequent domestic-style routes.

What is the fastest way to CPH from Copenhagen centre?

Metro line M2 from Nørreport: 13 minutes, DKK 38. Trains from Hovedbanegården (Central Station): 14 minutes, same price. Both run frequently. Taxis cost 250–350 DKK and take 20–30 minutes — rarely worth it.

When should I book flights from Copenhagen?

2–4 weeks ahead for budget airlines, 4–6 weeks for peak routes. Norwegian releases sales every Tuesday — check their site then. SAS Youth tickets (under 26) are often the cheapest option if you qualify.
